I'm not suprised who it was that started the ruckus at the NASCAR meeting last week. I respect that we need more jobs in the area, but plunking a huge concrete donut on that land to create a few temporary jobs for people not necessarily living in SI and a few low paying perm jobs and adding to the congested traffic, is NOT what we need here.

We have boatloads of tourists everyday, already, that just get back on the ferry without stepping a foot on SI. We should be working to get those people to stay a while and spend money here.

How about a tribute to the NYPD and firefighters and a museum complex devoted to the history of NYC, the harbor and indigenous species instead? Why not lure one of the major museums in NYC to help out? The Met, Nat. History, for instance and some complimentary restaurants.

That way there would be visitors all year round that could use PUBLIC transportation and create jobs of all levels. It would spark growth of more types of business instead of catering to one interest group.

We don't need to build more half-used, ugly, political pet projects on the island.
